TRACEWAKE

Follow the evidence. Question the obvious answer. Decide what matters before the incident decides for you.

TRACEWAKE is a single-player cyber-security experience built around investigation, consequence and the traces people leave behind.

TRACEWAKE brings two operational perspectives into the same incident space: Aurelius and Ghostline.

The premise

A cyber incident does not arrive as a quiz.

It arrives as a strange login, an impatient user, a noisy queue, an unfamiliar device, a half-useful log entry and a business that would quite like to keep operating.

TRACEWAKE turns that ambiguity into the game. The player gathers evidence across the fictional Aurelius environment, speaks to people, tests assumptions and chooses when to intervene.

The loop

Observe. Investigate. Respond.

The useful cyber concepts sit inside the decision-making instead of being bolted onto the end as a multiple-choice test.

01

Observe

Alerts, tickets, user reports and normal business activity compete for attention. Not everything strange is malicious, and not everything important announces itself.

02

Investigate

Correlate devices, account activity, logs and conversations. Evidence becomes meaningful when the pieces agree, disagree or expose something that should not be there.

03

Respond

Contain what you can justify, preserve business operation where possible, then document what happened and why you acted.

Aurelius workstation

A desktop full of evidence.

The workstation is designed to feel like an operating environment rather than a game menu. Windows overlap, tools disagree, and the player decides what deserves attention.

Design intent

Learning through consequence.

TRACEWAKE is designed as a serious game, but the goal is not to disguise a worksheet with prettier buttons. Players learn by doing the work: interpreting imperfect information, choosing tools, balancing containment against disruption and explaining their decisions.

Success is not just finding a suspicious artefact. It is understanding what the evidence supports and taking an action that makes sense in context.

Development snapshot

Built in public enough to show the scars.

The current project grew from a prototype developed under the working title Cyber Aware. The archived screenshots are intentionally preserved with that earlier identity because they document the real development path.

The Blue Team experience has already been through private alpha playtesting, and development is expanding the project beyond that first operational slice.

Ghostline operations

The other side of the incident.

Ghostline approaches the same world from the offensive side: gather intelligence, identify useful connections, exploit weaknesses and manage how much attention you attract.
